NEW IMPROVED BONES SWISS LABYRINTH BEARINGS

Bones Swiss Labyrinth Bearings are improved.

New, Bones Swiss L2 Bearings feature a new shield that reduces drag and increase the overall speed of the bearing. The Bones Swiss L2′s have a new, redesigned inner race and two new labyrinth shields to keep the dirt out longer, but still allow easy maintenance when necessary.

If you ride Original Bones Swiss the only difference you will notice is that the L2 Swiss will last several times longer between cleanings. This significant increase in service life comes at a very small increase in retail cost, so the value is greatly increased.

The new redesigned inner race and new shields build upon the success of our original Labyrinth. They do an even better job of actively dispersing dust and dirt away from the interior of the bearings.

As you can see in the images there is a step on the inside of the new shield and a new designed inner race.

In the split drawings, you can see our Original Bones Swiss has a non-contact shield and our original standard inner race, while the L2 has new shields and a new, redesigned inner race. When we combine the two new parts we are able to create an amazing labyrinth-type barrier.

A little extra girth never hurt anyone. At least that was our approach when it came time to revamp the design of the Pintail. We wanted to modernize this classic concept so it could keep up with evolutions in riding styles, techniques, and performance expectations.
The Fattail was designed for pumping, carving, pedestrian slalom, freestyle and generally any situation where lively, energetic lines are on the menu. You may never reach for your downhill board for those late night parking garage sessions again.

Features

Increased concave locks your feet in against g-forces, while the topmounted and cambered platform provides energetic performance in and out of each carve. The width of the deck has been redistributed while maintaining subtle tapering near the trucks to provide both ample leverage and awareness of foot position while powering through turns. The formerly vestigial tail has received the silicone treatment for improved functionality in both freestyle tricks and surf-style shredding. The Fattail is also equipped with a slight nose kick for manuals and shuvits.

Design

Armed with more sophisticated modeling software and improved experience in conceptualization and testing methods, we were able to fine tune the Fattail's shape and contours to ensure more consistent flex characteristics throughout the entire length of the standing platform when using either wheelbase. We kept the camber of the original Pintail, increased the concave and added a nominal nose kick and a full (if chunky) kick tail.

Construction

A vertically laminated bamboo core is sandwiched between fiberglass skins. The tail is reinforced with an additional layer of fiberglass (top) and carbon fiber (bottom) for added stiffness and abrasion resistance. The bottom is finished with a bamboo veneer with a die cut water droplet pattern, which is filled with transparent urethane and a “floating” graphic to give a sense of dimensionality.

Carbonized Bamboo

Since 2006 we've been devoted to using primarily “natural” bamboo exclusively in all our boards because natural is cleaner, right? Wrong. In late December 2010 we discovered that the “natural” bamboo we've been using actually involves a low toxicity bleaching process. The Fattail is constructed with a carbonized bamboo core (a cleaner process overall) and marks the beginning of our transition to carbonized bamboo in general for our lineup.

When you turn a normal truck, the hanger web puts pressure on one side of each bushing (top and bottom). This squeezes that side and pushes the other side of each bushing away from the kingpin. We call this a single action bushing because only one side of the bushing works for you at a time.

The HardCore insert in the center of BONES bushings connects the two sides of each bushing together by bonding them to the HardCore insert. When the hanger web squeezes one side of a HardCore bushing, that side of the bushing reacts just like a normal bushing, but the chemical bond between the HardCore and the cushion keep the bushing from being squeezed out the other side. It actually increases the resistance to turning because it is held in place by the HardCore insert. This means basically that BOTH sides of the BONES HardCore Bushing are resisting your turning force. That’s why we call BONES Bushings the first double action truck bushings.

Good skaters are hard on boards. They don’t miss little tricks, they miss big ones, and they break decks. Sometimes they break themselves too. We developed LIGAMENT Technology™ for our team after watching one of Jordan Hoffart’s especially nasty video slams at the bottom of a big rail gap.

LIGAMENT Technology™ consists of inlaying three long strips of high strength polymeric strap into the middle of each deck. These reinforcing straps are strong and flexible, like the ligaments that connect your muscles to your bones. Even when you break the board, the ligament straps will hold your deck together allowing you to ride out of it, instead of doing the groin-tearing splits. LIGAMENT decks weigh the same as a 7-ply maple deck, but have more pop, stay stiff longer than ordinary boards, and prevent the deck from ever breaking into two pieces because of the the three ligaments in each one.

The story of Ceramic Super REDS™, is simple, take the superior steels used in our Super REDS™ and swap the steel balls for Grade 5, Silicone Nitride, Hot Isostatically pressed ceramic balls and you have Bones Ceramic Super REDS™.

Bones Ceramic Super REDS™ are lighter, and provide faster acceleration, because the balls weigh much less. They create less friction and are thus faster than Super REDS™, with or without lubricant! When you get dirt into your Ceramic Super REDS™, the ceramic balls will help to re-polish the steel races flat again, providing a self-healing benefit because ceramic balls are so much harder than steel. Finally, ceramic balls will not rust, further lengthening their life. Ceramic Super REDS™ use a bone colored shield with laser engraved outer races for identification.
